People look at you strange, saying you changed. Like you worked that hard to stay the same.

People look at you strange, saying you changed. Like you worked that hard to stay the same. Like you’re doing all this for a reason. And what happens most of the time: people change. People change around you because they start treating you different because of your success.

– Jay Z

DJ Khaled’s “They Don’t Love You No More” features this great intro by Jay Z, from an interview conducted a few years ago. I think a lot of people can identify with it.

For several months, I’ve been working on clearing my plate to usher some change into my life and I’m almost at the end of that process. I’m hungry for that change. We work hard to change – in a good way. We don’t work hard to stay the same. But people around you can change for the worse. You have to shed those people.

I enjoyed Jay’s verse on this, as well. Meek Mill’s opening verse reminds me of an athlete running hard right out of the gate. He just starts so quick.

That reminds me of a Colin Powell quote that ends: "Those that don’t increase you will eventually decrease you."
