I Like Working on Holidays

So, I’m sitting here eating a chocolate marshmallow egg and I can’t help but think… I kinda like working on holidays. I mean, yeah, I spend time with my family, etc. But, there is downtime and a lot of it on most holidays and I like working on these days. Why? Well, it may sound funny, but the internet is “quiet” on holidays. There are less messages, less posts, less everything. So, I can get through my routine and get more done.

Then again, most days are like any other day to me. I was homeschooled and I did school on the days that I wanted to, not just Monday through Friday. I commonly worked on weekends and took weekdays off. And so on and so forth. So, I tend to look at every day as just another day for the most part.

I’m with you on this one. I love getting some extra time in on the Holidays. Sure, like you I spend some time with the Family, which I love doing. But when it’s over or when there’s downtime I like popping on. It’s a good time to catch up because not much else is going on "net" wise. I’m usually the guy who volunteers to cover the office around holildays when people take off. The work load is light (if any at all) and I get to enjoy a nice quiet time at work and get paid. I take off when everyone gets back to work. They spend a week in hectic "catch up" mode and I’ve got another easy week off, and when I get back they are just getting back to the normal schedule so I’m not over loaded.

Yes, holidays are good for those who know how to work the holidays ;)

Hear hear! I work whenever it feels right. Sometimes I work through the weekend so I can go somewhere or do something fun during the week. Other times I might work through the night just because I’m on a roll, and sleep late in the morning.

Lately I’m finding that I’ll work late at night (like now) when my house is quiet and the kids are in bed… and I’ll hang out at home in the morning when they get up. They’re in a great mood first thing in the morning and I can play with them without having to worry about bedtime, dinner, baths, etc.

It’s nice to be able to make our own schedules but some people aren’t disciplined enough to still get things done. I have friends who are "self employed" but really just sit around doing nothing most of the time and procrastinating. For those of us who can prioritize and get things done, the freedom is great.
