Idiot Fans at Fenway
(I shouldn’t have to do this, of course because idiots are idiots, there is no need to justify myself using the word. But, obviously, there are idiot Yankees fans and idiot Red Sox fans. Common sense. Idiot Yankees fans make good Yankees fans look bad as do idiot Red Sox fans for good Red Sox fans. Just to be clear).
Anyway. Play in the outfield in right to Sheff. Rolls along the wall. Then Mr. Doofus here tries (albiet very weakly) to take a shot at Sheff:

As I said, weak. Hard to get from that picture, but that’s what he was doing. So, whether he was trying to give him a lump or a love tap (Edit: or knock his hat off…), it doesn’t matter. The guy’s an idiot.
Now, if you look to the left in that photo, you see a woman right next to Sheff. To your left you see a man looking toward Sheff drinking. Next picture:

The guy dumped his beer on Sheff (I saw it in real time and in replay). He actually started the motion before Sheff went up to push the original guy. It wasn’t an accident. He did it on purpose and he’s a slimeball, that’s fine. Two real big men we have there. Taking weak shots and dumping beer (after the guy dumps the beer, he disappears behind the woman, whether accidentally or on purpose).
Similar to where Ron Artest got hit with the drink. Of course, Sheff isn’t stupid, he’s not jumping up into the stands. We all know that if Sheff would have faced either of these “men” man on man in a fight or even both at once, he’d decimate them. They’d still be at the park right now looking for what’s left of their faces.
Final picture:

Now again, there are good Red Sox fans and bad Red Sox fans (although, again, I don’t need to justify it), but anyone in this picture who is laughing, who is pointing, who is yelling… is probably an idiot. So, almost half the people in that shot, I guess. The people who started chanting Yankees S*ck after one of their “own” (though many would gladly renounce this man, I am sure) took the shot, I’m not sure what to call. But, I’ll skip that. Maybe this is the bad fans section or something, I don’t know. I particularly like the guy in the middle with his middle finger up in the air. Classy.

When I think of a word that best describes the current Boston Red Sox organization, it’s classless. From the owner’s down to the the self-proclaimed idiots. And when the organization is classless, it tends to spread to the fans. This is what you get.

Glad it didn’t turn any uglier than it already was.
Gary Sheffield looked like he really wanted to clock that guy - even though the game was still being played and he had the ball in his hand, allowing two runs to score.
Same thing could have happened at Yankee Stadium, too.

That’s not what happened. He came up and quickly pushed the fan back (literally in the blink of an eye)… one reason would be to make sure he had the room to throw and then threw. Given his past health issues, Sheff can’t take the chance that this guy was going to grab his arm when he’s in motion and having his head virtually down at the ground when the guy made contact… there aren’t a lot of options. He could have run away from the stands and then threw, but that wouldn’t have been quicker. He did not waste any time. He didn’t hold the ball while looking at the guy allowing any runs to score. He came up, cleared the space, threw and then he turned to confront the guy, after he threw the ball.
Could have, but then… a lot of things could have… let’s wait until it does.
Now that I think of it… maybe the ump should have called interference or whatever they call when a fan touches the ball. I mean, it was interference with the guy psychically making contact with Sheffield and the Red Sox wouldn’t have scored the runs (maybe they would have, I forget the exact situation) - that fan would have been booed.

One goofy idea to stop fans from provoking players for good: On the tickets for every game, print something like, "During the game, if you reach onto the playing field and strike one of the players – intentionally or unintentionally – or if you throw any object at them, the players reserve the right to pummel the living crap out of you, with absolutely no legal ramifications." - Bill Simmons
