Bernie the Great
So, lately, some of the Red Sox have taken turns slamming A-Rod, with some of the absurdity coming from one Trot Nixon who said that A-Rod will have to win a ring before he is considered a true Yankee. Finally, someone has stood up for Alex.
Surprising to some, I am sure, the generally quiet Bernie Williams, the voice of reason, puts the notion to rest.
“You have probably one of the greatest Yankees that ever wore this uniform, and that’s Cap (Don Mattingly), and who would argue that he’s not a true Yankee?” Williams said. “Still, he didn’t win a World Series here. I just don’t think that’s an accurate statement.”
So, without losing a shred of dignity, Bernie shoots a cannon through that logic and sheds light on the Red Sox inadvertently showing a lack of respect for Donnie Baseball, one of the most beloved Yankees of them all. Nicely done.
In addition to Bernie Baseball, a good nickname for Bernie would be quiet fire.

I agree with the Red Sox making those comments. Without a World Series ring from the most successful franchise in baseball, how can a player like Rodriguez be considered a ‘true’ Yankee?
As everyone knows, the Yankees are basically the definition of winning, so if a former or current player hasn’t been a part of that, then I don’t think they’re true.

If there is such a thing as a true Yankee, Don Mattingly is it.
