If Giambi is both a Yankee and healthy, I’d say he is the starting 1B. I’d see Tino being the backup 1B, backup DH, first base fielding replacement in later innings and pinch hitter for Womack (if we can’t find another 2B) in situations that require more power or a sac fly, etc.
I don’t really see us having Beltran, Bernie, Tino and Giambi all healthy and Tino starting. But, if it happens, I’d expect to see Giambi in the role I just described above except for the fielding replacement role and maybe he’d get a few more ABs. Maybe not, though, because if he is in NY, healthy and BEHIND Tino, he must be in TERRIBLE shape, right?
It wouldn’t shock me, though, for Beltran, Giambi, Bernie and Tino to not all be healthy for the whole year. :)
