Happy New Year!

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Happy New Year, everyone.

I kid you not… one of the first things that pops into my head after the ball drops is “Well, time to update the copyright statements.”

I’m a unique one.

… and Tino, too!

Yanks get RJ (Hopefully)

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

ESPN is reporting that the Yankees have acquired Randy Johnson in exchange for Javier Vazquez, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro and $8.5 to $9 million.

Hopefully it gets done. Although I am sorry to see Javy go, I am excited to see Randy in pinstripes. If it happens, we just need to trade for Junior Griffey to reunite the Seattle 3.

RIP: Jerry Orbach

More on U.S. Stinginess

Wednesday, December 29th, 2004

Posts from GOPbloggers, Lone Star Times and Kevin McCullough (via GOPbloggers).

Anyway, now the guy says he was misinterpreted. The good thing is that this is such a cause where some dumb comments by someone who wasn’t thinking aren’t really going to stop people from donating.

UN Says US is Stingy

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Interesting:

“The United States, at the president’s direction, will be a leading partner in one of the most significant relief, rescue and recovery challenges that the world has ever known,” said White House deputy press secretary Trent Duffy.

But U.N. Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Egeland suggested that the United States and other Western nations were being “stingy” with relief funds, saying there would be more available if taxes were raised.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give you a call when I care what you think. Sheesh.

In response to Mr. Egeland’s comments, Mr. Duffy pointed out that the United States is “the largest contributor to international relief and aid efforts, not only through the government, but through charitable organizations. The American people are very giving.”

An interesting point to make. When people pay less taxes, they have more money for themselves to decide what to do with – if they paid more taxes, that’d be more money for the government to decide how to use. When people have more money, they will be more inclined to donate to charity. Kind of a double edged thing, is it not?

If 22,000 was incomprehensible, what is 44,000? Wow.

:(

Liars

Monday, December 27th, 2004

I’m thinking of one group in particular, but generally… I can’t stand liars. It is astonishing to me how people can just lie right out there in front of people. I’m not talking about little white lies, but nasty, venemous lies aimed at hurting others.

It doesn’t bother me, personally, as these folks will get what they deserve in the end. But, I don’t know how they sleep at night. Do they actually believe what they say or think what they say actually happened? It is amazing.

Asia Quake Tragedy
