Laptop

November 5, 2004

I am looking for a really good deal on a laptop that I will use for working on the road. Updating sites, writing, surfing. No gaming. I don’t care about battery life and I don’t care about weight. I want it to be under $750 shipped with tax. A 30 GB hard drive is sufficient and I would like to get 512 MB. Screen size is unimportant.

I have pretty much searched the globe, so I believe I know all of what there is, but just in case…

Only qualm I’ve had is the cooling fan needed replacement. I blame folding@home.

    I appreciate the suggestion.

I feel most comfortable with HP/Compaq, but am willing to go outside of it for a really great deal. Unfortuinately, after plugging in what I said in the lowest model, it came to $881.10 (assuming there is no tax and shipping and no great coupons around). I could just get an HP/Compaq for that, so its probably not good for me.

    But, thanks for suggesting it.

If you are not aiming high, I believe Walmart has some cheapos:

    Not with 512 Ram though.

Thanks, Toni. Not quite what I want, but thanks.

What would be really great is if any of you had an unused Dell coupon that you weren’t going to use, there is a laptop that would be a good deal (enough to make me to jump HP/Compaq) with a coupon. :D

Patrick, good luck finding a deal. Keep your eye on Dell while your shopping around. They have had some pretty crazy 1 day sales lately and if you catch one you might be able to get a really great deal. One I saw was a great low price + free shipping + free wireless card and 20% off wireless router. I picked up one for my step mother and after a few upgrades it was less than $800.

Yeah, Dell did have a crazy deal… I started looking a little too late. :D
