A-Rod Speaks… Kind Of
July 25, 2004
Well, we’re not gonna find out what Varitek said:
Much of the press accounts I have been are being extremely generous and complementory toward the Red Sox.
I read one that said A-Rod “shouted” at Arrojo first. I didn’t see that, and neither did a friend of mine – did it happen? (and where in the world was the catcher mic?! the ONE time where it would be useful to me). [Edit: After watching the footage some more (finally got a good angle), I see that A-Rod had "words" with Arrojo. I don't really think he shouted all that loudly, but I guess that's just a minor detail.]
If we ignore it, what happens? Who knows. At the same time, does the ump allow Varitek to stay in the game if A-Rod just trots off to first? Despite what he said (whatever that may be)? I wonder.
Anyway, this is one game in July and it’s importance should not be overstated. For a vastly underperforming, disappointing team like the Sox, it is surely something to grasp onto, but we just need to get this game behind us and go right along.
