Political Tidbits

Michael Moore simultaneously on voter rolls in New York, Michigan.

New York City Board of Elections records show that Moore, 50, registered to vote in Gotham in 1992, checking off “Democratic” as his party affiliation (below you’ll find a copy of his original registration form). He listed his address as the swanky Upper West Side building where he owns a multimillion dollar condominium (Moore’s office is on West 57th Street). The filmmaker’s New York registration remains active, though he has not voted since an October 2001 Democratic runoff election.

Now here’s the good part: Moore is simultaneously registered to vote in Michigan, where registrants aren’t even given the option of party affiliation (so he’s not an Independent there either). According to Antrim County records, Moore registered last April from his lakefront spread in northern Michigan, where he reportedly splits his time, but has yet to vote in Michigan. He transferred his drivers license to Michigan from New York around the same time, though Moore has a Volkswagen Beetle registered from his Manhattan home.

Pretty funny. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but it’s still funny.

9/11 Commission: U.S. Terror War has Stymied al Qaida.

The Sept. 11 Commission has found that the Bush administration’s war on terror has severely impaired al Qaida’s ability to organize another spectacular attack against the U.S. homeland by capturing or killing the deadly terror group’s key leaders, drying up their financial resources and severely limiting their ability to “strategize, plan attacks, and dispatch operatives worldwide.”

The bombshell finding, buried at the end of the Commission’s Staff Statement No. 15, should have been hailed in the press as evidence that we’ve at least turned the corner in the war on terror - and may indeed have the enemy on the run. Instead, reporters have ignored this particular Commission finding since its release on June 16.

Yeah, it was buried. I don’t pretend to read the newspaper every day or anything but I do go to Google News daily and I found this my total accident. It’s good to hear.

I don’t mind we’re doing well, we’re not doing so well… but, I don’t really care for looking for an individual to throw mistakes on. I don’t see what it all accomplishes. I’d prefer them privately coming up with ideas to improve. We could be doing awesome and be hit by something at any time because you can never protect everything.

William Safire: Rogue staffers hijacked 9/11 commission .

“Were there contacts between Al-Qaida and Iraq?” Kean asked himself. “Yes … no question.” Hamilton joined in: “The vice president is saying, I think, that there were connections … we don’t disagree with that” — just “no credible evidence” of Iraqi cooperation in the 9/11 attack.

The Zelikow report was seized upon by John Kerry because it fuzzed up the distinction between evidence of decade-long dealings between agents of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden (which panel members know to be true) and evidence of Iraqi cooperation in the 9/11 attacks (which, as Hamilton said yesterday, modifying his earlier “no credible evidence” judgment, was “not proven one way or the other.”)

I think there must have been some sort of connection, as Kean said, but to what extent… who knows? I wasn’t there. It would seem that hatred of America could unite this duo, but that is strictly speculation on my part. I’m not going to say anything except that it might be best if people wait to jump to a decisive conclusion as to whether or not Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein were linked.
